Music Lessons 2010

Music Lessons 2010

I have been approached by KBB music who are offering to run specialist music (a range of brass and string instruments) tuition and a regional orchestra at our school next year. Lessons are in groups of 4 at a cost of $16 per lesson, per student. Hireage of instruments can also be done through KBB for around $220-$450 per instrument (price varies according to the instrument). Lessons take place before school, after school and at times during school.

I am wanting some feedback on this. Please let me know what you think.

  1. Hi Fraser
I think it would be a great opportunity to have music lessons at school after hours rather than going to Rangiora / Kaiapoi. And a fantastic opportunity to be part of a primary school orchestra (the hall will need finishing fast!!!)

None of my kids are doing music lessons at present, travel, fitting in with other committments, cost, and having instruments to practice on are all a consideration.

I am not familiar with KBB so don't know what the standard of tution offered is or if the rates are comparable to other organisations etc .

The other consideration is the instruments that my kids have shown an interest in learning guitar/piano/drums I presume wouldn't be covered in this?

Will be interested to hear other parents feedback

    Hi Fraser
I think its a great idea to encourage our children to express themselves through music.
There could be the next Andre Rieu or Bobby Keys amonst them.
"Swannanoa Symphony" has a ring to it! (pardon the pun)
    regards Michelle

  3. Hi Fraser,

I think this is a great idea and opportunity for our children. I'd love my kids to learn an instument. I'm thinking the guitar. Is this on offer?
Like Emma, I don't know anything about KBB or other organisations that provide tuition...we could give it a go and find out!

    Thanks

  4. Hi Fraser,
I also think a wonderful idea - wish it had been on offer when I enrolled my boys with Nth Cant Academy.
On the topic of music - I know there are a heap of talented musicians in the school and I would really like to see a school orchestra formed. We havn't had a school choir for a number of years also. Participation in the likes of the combined schools music festival is such a good experience for kids.
    Cheers Sue

  5. Hi Fraser,

Like Sue, my kids go to N Canty Academy for music lessons. ALthough it would be handy to have lessons closer to home, the prices in comparison semm quite high. For example on year of tuition on keyboard in a group of 3 costs $240. The cello cost $410 for individual and group lessons plus equipment hire. Also, the tutors that we have had have all been excellent.

I don't think we would change but it would be great to have a school orchestra/ choir. I was amazed at how many talented Swannanoa kids, past & present, took part in the N Canty Academy end of year performance at the weekend.
